Sanford, FL

The Regional Transportation Management Center was built for the Florida Department of Transportation and the Florida Highway Patrol Dispatch. Located on seven acres in Sanford near Interstate I-4 and the Wekiva Parkway, the Regional Transportation Management Center is a 45,000 sq ft, state-of-the-art facility.  Built with sustainable design features, the project has achieved LEED certification from the US Green Building Council.  The center houses the Central Florida Intelligent Traffic System which operates more than 500 traffic cameras on highways and streets in Central Florida. Including I-4, Interstate 75, Interstate 95 — in Orange, Seminole, Brevard, Volusia, Lake, Flagler, Sumter, Osceola and Marion counties. The information collected from those cameras is posted on large electronic message boards. The highway message boards alert motorists about traffic delays, accidents or lane closures. The FDOT describes the RTMC as “the nerve center for disseminating information to the traveling public”.
